The Whitsundays Reef Education Program
Students will learn alongside leading marine scientists to gain a new perspective on solutions to support reef health.
The health of the reef is a complex story. The Great Barrier Reef is very much alive but under pressure.
The Whitsundays Reef Education Program gives students an opportunity to combine theoretical learning with practical observation. Working alongside marine scientists from Reef Ecologic, students will learn valuable information and collaborate with others to give you a different understanding and a new perspective about the Reef. The fieldwork is designed to encourage students to think differently, and to appreciate that not all they read or hear should be taken as truth.
Join us in this world-class learning environment. The Whitsundays offers access to both continental fringing reefs and the outer Great Barrier Reef.
This distinctive 5-day 4-night charter starts from Airlie Beach and students live aboard Solway Lass. Our 118-year-old tall ship is the ideal mother ship for the charter.
Students will be active participants in the observation and monitoring of two key citizen science-based programs.
- Eye on the Reef
- Coral Watch
They will also gain a rare insight into the application of the coral restoration program, another program managed by Reef Ecologic.
There will also be free time to enjoy the beauty of the Whitsunday Islands. Time to experience Whitehaven Beach, Hill Inlet, and some of the vistas that make The Whitsundays a world-class location.
This charter is ideal for groups between 16 and 20 students and two teachers.
